PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for a DMFC type fuel cell for a portable electric appliance suppressing CO poisoning originated in methanol, the catalyst efficiently generating electric power at low temperatures, practically using at low price, and low in toxicity in the DMFC type fuel cell using a methanol aqueous solution as fuel. PSOLUTION: The catalyst for the DMFC type fuel cell for the portable electric appliance contains RuTeSB2/SBas an active component. Since the catalyst containing RuTeSB2/SBdoes not cause drop in catalytic activity by methanol, the catalyst for the DMFC type fuel cell for the portable electric appliance capable of replacing a platinum catalyst decreasing catalytic performance by methanol, low in price, high in practical use, and low in toxicity is provided.
