PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar lithium nickel composite oxide capable of obtaining a secondary battery having high safety and good cycling characteristic when used as a positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery and to provide its manufacturing method. PSOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the planar lithium nickel composite oxide whose composition is represented by a following formula (1): LiSBy/SBNiSB1-x/SBMSBx/SBOSB2/SB(wherein, M is at least one kind element selected among a transition metal other than Ni, an alkaline earth metal element, Al, Ti, Ga, In or Si, x is 0x0.3 and y is 0.95y1.1), following steps (1)-(3) are included. (1) A planar nickel hydroxide having 3-20 m plane direction particle size and 50-150 mSP2/SP/g specific surface area is prepared. (2) A lithium compound is added to the planar nickel hydroxide and mixed. (3) An obtained mixture is burned at 650-850C. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
