PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine start controller and an engine start control method capable of further reducing vibration generated by resonance. PSOLUTION: This engine start controller comprises: a profile predicting means S3 for predicting the rising profile of an engine rotational speed by cranking before an engine cranking is started; determination means S4, S5, S7 for determining whether there is such a possibility that a rising degree reduction zone in which a rising degree is lowered while the engine rotational speed is accelerated is overlapped with the natural frequency zone of a system according to the predicted speed rising profile; initial crank angle adjusting means S6, S9, S10 each rotating a crankshaft by the initial angle so that, when there is such a possibility that the rising degree reduction zone is overlapped with the natural frequency of the system, the rising degree reduction zone is not overlapped with the natural frequency zone of the system; and a cranking means for starting engine cranking while the crankshaft is at the initial angle at which there is such a possibility that the rising degree reduction zone is overlapped with the natural frequency zone of the system.
