PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means of detoxifying asbestos waste material at a relatively low temperature without scattering asbestos into a furnace.;SOLUTION: Calcium chloride, sodium carbonate, caustic soda, sodium phosphate, etc. are added to scattering asbestos-containing material which is put into a bag and hermetically sealed, thereafter, the scattering asbestos-containing material to which the calcium chloride, sodium carbonate, caustic soda, sodium phosphate, etc. are added is calcined together with a calcium agent such as shell, gypsum, limestone, dolomite, cement hardened material at a temperature of 900C to 1,100C and, on the other hand, non-scattering asbestos is heated up to 600C at a prescribed rate and, thereafter, is calcined together with the calcium agent at the temperature above described.
