PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve OSNR yield strength when Pin is high, and also to improve jitter tolerance measured by a 1 dB Power Penalty Method, in an optical receiver using an ADP.;SOLUTION: This optical receiver using the APD as a photoelectric conversion element to control an APD bias voltage given to the APD includes a current monitoring means to monitor the magnitude of a photoelectric current, a determining means to determine whether the magnitude of the photoelectric current monitored by the current monitoring means exceeds a prescribed threshold or not, and a control means to decrease the APD bias voltage when it is determined by the determining means that the magnitude of the photoelectric current exceeds the prescribed threshold, and to keep the APD bias voltage high and constant when it is determined by the determining means that the magnitude of the photoelectric current is not more than the threshold.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
