The performance evaluation of the incoherent time spread on-off keying optical Code Division Multiple Access (O-CDMA) system with nonideal optical hard-limiters and an avalanche-photodiode receiver is studied in this paper. The nonideal optical hard-limiters, avalanche-photodiode noise, and thermal noise of the receiver are taken as parameters for the performance analysis. The signal-to-interference ratio and bit error probability are used as performance merits in this analysis. The shortened optical orthogonal codes achieve multiple accesses in the investigated O-CDMA system. The system performance improvement for cases of the O-CDMA decoder without, with one, and with two optical HLs, respectively, is shown by simulation of the signal-to-interference ratio and bit error probability versus the number of active users for various weights of code words and received laser power. This performance evaluation of the optical CDMA system contains properties of the nonideal hard-limiter and optical orthogonal code correlation unlike those in previously published performance analyses.
