PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substitute substrate for measuring the optical activity of luciferase, without having to use D-luciferin which is a firefly light-emitting substrate. PSOLUTION: The luminous activity with the luciferase expressing in a cell, in a manner that is similar to that of the D-luciferin can be measured by using a benzothiazole derivative, such as, 2-cyano-6-hydroxybenzothiazole as a luciferin precursor and incorporating the luciferin precursor in an organism in which the firefly luciferase gene is introduced or a part thereof.
