PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new protein binding to SMG-1 and controlling its activity, a polynucleotide encoding the protein and the use of an inhibitor inhibiting the action or expression of the new protein as a suppressing agent for mRNA surveillance mechanism. PSOLUTION: The inventors have successfully identified a new protein binding to SMG-1 and controlling its activity and a polynucleotide encoding the protein. Furthermore, the inventors have found that the mRNA surveillance mechanism is suppressed by the inhibition of the expression of the gene of the protein and provided a suppressing agent for mRNA surveillance mechanism containing the inhibitor of the protein or the expression inhibitor of the polynucleotide.
