PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for repairing an existing channel by an open shield method, which dispenses with the separate securement of a drainage route even during repair work for the existing channel by supplying water in the existing channel to the rear through an open shield machine, and which can restrain surroundings from being affected by the scouring, loosening, etc. of surrounding natural ground, associated with the repair of the existing channel, even if the outside width of the existing channel is greater than the inside width of the front section of the shield machine; and to provide the open shield machine.;SOLUTION: This method is practiced by repeating: a step of arranging a closing wall 13 in the width direction of the channel, equipped with an externally-opened double hinged door 14, ahead of a front section 1d of the open shield machine 1, and of performing excavation and earth removal in a space surrounded by the closing wall 13 and the inside of the front section 1d; a step of opening the door 14 of the closing wall 13 depending on the removal of one section of a side wall 42 of the existing channel 40; a step of removing one section of a bottom floor panel 41 of the existing channel 40 in that state; and a step of advancing the open shield machine 1 by removing the closing wall 13.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
