PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system, data manipulation method, data manipulating program, and recording medium for recording data manipulating program which has excellent expandability for data manipulating function to contents and can do data manipulation depending on the contents. PSOLUTION: The document management system 100 is one which has the data manipulating function for carrying out a preset data manipulation on the contents C including the document data, and includes means for holding 41 to hold the associated data 51 and 52 for associating the contents C with the preset data manipulation to be executed to the contents C, means for specifying 42 for interpreting the associated data 51 and 52 held by the means for holding 41, specifying the region 91 of the contents C from the result of interpretation, and specifying the data manipulation to the contents C from the specified region 91, and means for executing 43 for executing the data manipulation specified by the means for specifying 42 to the contents C.
