PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a desulfurized heavy cracked gasoline that is supressed in the reduction in the research octane number and a low-sulfur gasoline composition containing the desulfurized heavy cracked gasoline.;SOLUTION: The method for producing desulfurized heavy cracked gasoline comprises using a heavy cracked gasoline as a raw material that is produced by fractionating catalytically cracked gasoline and has a distillation initial boiling point of ≥90°C and a sulfur content of 20-50 mass ppm and subjecting the raw material to hydrodesulfurization in the presence of a catalyst obtained by supporting at least a metal of the group 6 or a metal of the group 8 of the periodic table as an active metal on a porous carrier under reaction conditions of a temperature of 150-245°C, a pressure of 1.0-2.5 MPa, a LHSV of 1-10 h-1 and the ratio of hydrogen/oil of 50-200 NL/L in a desulfurization ratio to give a sulfur content of desulfurized heavy cracked gasoline of 10-15 mass ppm and in a hydrogenation ratio of olefin to give a reduction in olefin content of ≤1 vol.%.
