PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute object recognition from a photographic image of a three-dimensional object at high speed.;SOLUTION: Pattern recognition is performed by use of a means 11 for inputting registration image data; a means 12 for extracting a first characteristic point from the registration image data; a means 13 for accumulating position information for the first characteristic point in an accumulation means; a means 14 for inputting recognition image data; a means 15 for extracting a second characteristic point from the recognition image data; a means 16 for forming a distance reference table for the recognition image data; a recognition means 17 for calculating a similarity based on the position information for the first characteristic point called from a learning map storage part and the distance reference table, and determining a most similar characteristic point for the object based on the similarity; and a means 18 for outputting the most similar characteristic point.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
