PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a domain object to be used for a free form graphics system. ;SOLUTION: An icon representing a domain object can be operated like other graphic objects. A domain object is defined by a domain object class to define an attribute 301, a set 303 of action rules and a layout 302. The attribute 301 explains information or data related with the domain object. The set 303 of action rules maps a user action and a system event to operations to be performed to the domain object. The layout 302 defines how domain object information is to be displayed as the icon. The attribute 301 may have a calculated value as well. The value of the attribute 301 is calculated based on the value of other attributes or a spatial arrangement of the icon representing a data object on a working picture.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
