PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an unsaturated alcohol with a high conversion rate and a high selectivity through hydrogenation reaction using citral as a raw material. PSOLUTION: In the method for synthesizing the unsaturated alcohol, citral is hydrogenated in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst. Here, the unsaturated alcohol is selectively synthesized from citral in the presence of a nickel (II) catalyst, wherein carbon dioxide in a sub-critical or supercritical state is used as a reaction medium.
