PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a staple fiber for a nonwoven fabric, capable of preventing the formation of fiber lumps formed by the generation of static electricity caused by the friction between fiber-to-fiber or fiber-to-machine especially in a production process of a dry nonwoven fabric without imparting a special treating agent on the fiber surface, usable as a binder fiber for the nonwoven fabric, and enabling the nonwoven fabric having excellent uniformity, bulkiness and flexibility to be obtained.;SOLUTION: The staple fiber for the nonwoven fabric is a fiber composed of a copolyester having ≤200°C melting point or flow-starting temperature. The fiber is the staple fiber having 1.0-30 mm fiber length, 0.3-40 dtex single fiber size and crimps imparted thereto. The single fiber has a crimp part having the crimp shape satisfying the expression (1): 0.01T+0.10≤H/L≤0.02T+0.25 [wherein, H is the height of a triangle obtained by binding the top of the mountain part and two bottom points of the valley parts at the maximum mountain part of the crimp part; L is the base length of the triangle; and T is the size (dtex) of the single fiber].;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
