PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a staple fiber for a nonwoven fabric, capable of preventing formation of a flocculation of the fiber caused by generation of static electric charge due to friction between the fibers, or the fiber and a machine, especially in processes for producing the nonwoven fabric of dry type, without applying a special finish agent to surfaces of the fiber, and capable of giving the nonwoven fabric having excellent uniformity, high quality, and enough bulkiness.;SOLUTION: This staple fiber for the nonwoven fabric comprises a conjugated fiber composed of a polyester A consisting mainly of alkylene terephthalate units and having a melting point of ≥ 220°C and a polymer B having a fluidization beginning temperature or a melting point lower than those of the polyester A by 30°C or more. Further, the staple fiber is so structured that a fiber length thereof is 1.0-30 mm, a fineness of single yarn thereof is 0.3-40 dtex, and crimp is given to the stable fiber, wherein the single yarn has such a shape of the crimp in a maximum mountain area of a crimped part that a triangle formed by connecting a peak of the mountain area to two of bottom points of adjacent valley areas has a ratio (H/L) of a height (H) to a base (L) satisfying the following inequality (1): 0.01T+0.1≤H/L≤0.02T+0.25 (T is the fineness of the single yarn in dtex).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
