PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems wherein reports on sick-house symptoms do not terminate although adhesives and building materials which do not release formaldehyde, i.e. a typical VOC released from paints and adhesives, are developed, and there are carbides as adsorbents of formaldehyde but usual carbides adsorb formaldehyde to a certain extent, however, their adsorption speeds are slow and their functions deteriorate remarkably after they adsorb a certain amount of formaldehyde. PSOLUTION: Calcium oxide and/or magnesium oxide is added to a strained lees of citrus fruits. The mixture is granulated, carbonized at 700C or above and then steam-activated at 900C or above. The resultant activated carbon not only adsorb-decomposes formaldehyde but also performs such function repeatedly. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
