PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the contact state of an electrifying member which comes into contact with a body to be electrified so as to electrify the body to be electrified.;SOLUTION: The device for detecting the contact state stops application of AC voltage after the voltage obtained by superposing DC voltage and AC voltage is applied to the electrifying member 24. When the application of AC voltage is stopped, discharge is generated in the peripheral area of a contact part 96 between an image holding body 22 and the electrifying member 24, and potential of the electrifying member 24 in the area where the discharge is generated is changed. When an electrostatic latent image of halftone in uniform density is written on the image holding body 22 and a developer image is transferred to a recording medium, a contact area (a) of halftone corresponding to contact width between the image holding body 22 and the electrifying member 24 in a time T1 and surrounding areas b1 and b2 whose density is lower than that of the contact area (a) because the surface potential of the electrifying member 24 is changed due to the discharge generated between the image holding member 22 and the electrifying member 24 in the time T1 are respectively formed as belt-like images extending in a main scanning direction on the recording medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
