PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method for simply evaluating a residual strength of a circular steel pipe member without using a large computer by simply investigating a corrosion state of the circular steel pipe member at a maintenance site of a steel pipe structure.;SOLUTION: In the evaluation method for the residual strength of the circular steel pipe member with a generated defect on a side face, the defect generated on the side face is sorted into five patterns i.e., (1) a case where a corrosion hole is one, (2) a case where the corrosion hole is not contained and only a reduced thickness is generated, (3) a case where the corrosion hole and the reduced thickness coexist in the same place, (4) a case where a total of two or more defect parts under the cases (1), (2), (3) exist in the axial direction of the steel pipe member and (5) a case where a total of two or more defect parts under the cases (1), (2), (3) exist in the circumferential direction of the steel pipe member, an approximation expression used to find the residual strength is created in the respective cases, a form of each approximation expression is decided in such a way that a residual strength calculated by each approximation expression agrees satisfactorily with a residual strength found by a precision analysis by an elastoplasticity finite element method, and the residual strength is found by using the approximation expression.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
