PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely form a thin insulation coating on a metal conductor by carrying out an electrolytic polymerization of a phenol derivative using, as an electrode, a metal conductor immersed in an alkaline aqueous solution containing a specific phenol derivative and an alkylamine.;SOLUTION: A metal conductor 3 rolled on a reel 1 is, through a pulley 7, immersed in an electrolysis container 2 having a basic-compound aqueous solution containing 0.01-10 mol/l of a phenol derivative which is non-substituted at the 4th position and (non-)substituted at the 2nd, the 3rd, the 5th and the 6th positions, 0.05-10 mol/l of an alkylamine and optionally 0.01-10 mol/l of a polymerizable monomer having a C-C unsaturated bond. A counter electrode 4 which is immersed in the solution at a position where it does not contact with the metal conductor 3. A power supply 6 is connected with the counter electrode 4 and the pulley electrode 7 which is electrically connected with the metal conductor 3. An insulation coating of a thickness of 10-100 μm is formed on the metal conductor 3 by applying a voltage of 0.5-5 V to carry out an electrolytic polymerization of the phenol derivative.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
