PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful as a flame-retardant capable of providing a resin composition for electric devices with flame-retardance without lowering its mechanical properties, by introducing allyl or 2,3- dibromopropyl to a specific brominated p-cumylphenol. ;SOLUTION: This brominated p-cumylphenol derivative is a compound of formula I ((a) is 1-3; (b) is 1 or 2) or a compound of formula II [e.g. a mixture of 0-80 mol% of a compound in which a+b is 2, 80-0 mol% of a compound in which a+b is 3 and 0-20 a compound in which a+b is 4-5].
