PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce distance computational complexity without increasing distance computational complexity for searching due to the increase of search object points, in relation to a position search method and a device by landmark set.;SOLUTION: The position search method is constituted such that information on each position of the plurality of landmark sets disposed on a map randomly is stored, and a plurality of search object points on the map are designated, so that a landmark set of search object is calculated from the stored landmarks included in neighboring ranges having centers at the plurality of search object points and the set is stored, according to a search instruction including a search center point, a landmark set of the search center is calculated from the stored landmark included in the ranges close to the search center point, a landmark for which the calculated landmark set of the search center and the landmark set of the search object match is searched, the number of matched landmark for each search object is calculated and stored, and the number of matching for each stored search object is outputted in descending order by a predetermined number.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
