PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing dimethyl ether efficiently from methanol and a catalyst to be used in this method.;SOLUTION: This catalyst contains alumina, which is shown by Al₂O₃-nH₂O (0≤n≤0.5) and is activated alumina having a χ- or η-crystal phase, as a principal component and ≤0.05 wt.%, preferably, ≤0.01 wt.% Na₂O and has such pores that the cumulative volume of pores having 100 nm to 100 μm pore radius is ≥0.05 cm³/g, preferably, ≥1.0 cm³/g.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
