PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilization method in which a strong sterilizing effect is obtained and sterilization treatment can be efficiently performed and to provide a sterilization apparatus to be used in the sterilization method.;SOLUTION: The sterilization apparatus for sterilizing microbes in the water by using a photocatalyst is provided with: a photocatalytic reaction part 11 in which the photocatalyst is held to bring the photocatalyst into contact with the water to be treated; a light source 12 for irradiating the photocatalyst with an excitation light beam; and a salt addition means 16 for adding a predetermined amount of salt which is dissolved in water to produce a chloride ion, to the water to be treated. The water to be treated is circulated in a flow passage by a circulation pump 13 and sterilized by the photocatalyst housed in the photocatalytic reaction part 11 when passing through the photocatalytic reaction part 11. A small amount of salt is added to the water to be treated by the salt addition means 16, so that the sterilizing effect of the photocatalyst can be heightened and the water to be treated can be treated efficiently by strong sterilizing power.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
