PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new axonal regenerating agent for central nervous system cells comprising β-cryptoxanthin having lower toxicity and a high activity at a lower concentration as an active ingredient.;SOLUTION: The axonal regenerating agent for the central nervous system cells is characterized by comprising the β-cryptoxanthin as the active ingredient. An antidement agent is characterized by comprising the β-cryptoxanthin as the active ingredient and has inhibitory actions on apoptosis of the central nervous system cells. A functional food product is characterized in that a prescribed amount of the β-cryptoxanthin is formulated as the active ingredient to prepare the functional food product. Furthermore, the functional food product has the inhibitory actions on the apoptosis of the central nervous system cells. The β-cryptoxanthin has the excellent axonal regenerating actions on the nervous system cells, especially matured central nervous system cells.
