PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road map data preparation method and device capable of preparing easily a road map data of a reduced data volume and capable of maintaining a satisfaction degree of a user, from a prescribed road map data.;SOLUTION: One part of the existing road map data is deleted by a prescribed deletion rule, in order to prepare the road map data to be stored, for example, in a memory card having a storage capacity smaller than that of the existing road map data, from the existing road map data. Meanwhile, a navigation system using the road map data stored, for example, in the memory card stores a restoration rule, that is paired with the deletion rule, capable of restoring the road map data with the one portion of the data deleted by the deletion rule. The road map data with the one portion of the data deleted by the deletion rule is thereby reduced in the data volume, and can be restored in the navigation system.
