PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pulling a free end of a needle thread from a top face of a workpiece to a bottom face and a sewing machine to perform this method.;SOLUTION: In the method for pulling the free end (83) of the needle thread (62) from the top face of at least one workpiece (74, 75) to the bottom face when a first stitch of a planned seam (81) to sew is sewed, at least one presser (25) which is located on the workpiece (74, 75) and can be lifted is used with a sewing machine.
