PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dynamic image time axis interpolation method and a dynamic image time axis interpolation apparatus capable of forming a proper interpolation image even from an image part with a greater change by obtaining a plurality of correlations with different temporal relations among a plurality of images around an image to be interpolated so as to detect a motion vector and control adaptive interpolation on the basis of relations among a plurality of the correlations. PSOLUTION: An input image signal being a progressive scanning image signal having 30 frames per second whose motion is compensated by a motion compensation unit 6 according to a MV from a motion estimate unit 51 and a 1-frame delay image signal whose motion is inversely compensated by a motion compensation unit 7 according to a MV from the motion estimate unit 51 are summed by an adder 8 and thereafter the sum is divided by 2 into an interpolated image signal. The interpolated image signal is stored in a frame buffer 11. The input image signal stored in a frame buffer 10 and the interpolated image signal stored in the frame buffer 11 are alternately read for a one-frame time of the input image signal and outputted to an image output terminal 13 via a switch 12 as a progressive scanning image signal having 60 frames per second.
