PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for ion identification method which is capable of easily and accurately identifying the ions of a sample subjected to the identification in a high resolution mass spectrometer. ;SOLUTION: In a mass spectrometer capable of measuring the masses of ions at high resolution, ion identification includes a process of storing the data of types of nuclear species and the atomic weights of an object element, including isotopes as atomic weight table 133 in a memory means 13 of the mass spectrometer while correlating the nuclear species and the atomic weight, a process of designating the mass range within a specified range including the mass value for the mass value of the desired mass peak of the measured mass spectrum, a process 132 of computing compositions capable of existing in the mass range by combination of respective elements stored in the atomic weight table, and a process of outputting the computed compositions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
