PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for coating materials capable of forming a coating film excellent in water resistance and a contamination-reducing property. PSOLUTION: The additive for the coating material comprises a polyoxyalkylene compound (A) represented by either one of general formulas (1) to (3) [Q is a reactive residue after removing a hydrogen atom from (t) × primary hydroxy groups of a nonreducing disaccharide or trisaccharide; L is a reactive residue of an isocyanate; OA is a 2-4C oxyalkylene group and total number of OA in one molecule is 10-80 per Q; n1 to n4 are each an integer of 2-40; (m) is 1-3 which is an integer not larger than (t); (t) is an integer of 2-4] as an essential component.
