PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for generating a reference number for a message of a mobile communication terminal in which, when a new message with the same reference number as one of the messages stored in the mobile communication terminal is received, a new reference number is generated and registered so that errors due to duplication can be avoided.;SOLUTION: In the mobile communication terminal with a message service function, the device for generating the reference number comprises: a reference number comparison means for comparing a reference number of a received message to those of the previously stored messages; a means for allocating a new reference number to the received message if the match is made; and a reference number table for storing both the current and new reference numbers of the received message.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
