PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material having negative Δε and lowering liquid crystal phase lower limit temperature without lowering the absolute value of the Δε, to provide a liquid crystal composition containing the same, having negative Δε and wide in service temperature range, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the composition, having high display grade.;SOLUTION: The compound having 1,2-propanediyl group as linkage group is represented by general formula(I). The liquid crystal composition comprises the compound and another specific compound with negative dielectric constant anisotropy, having negative Δε with its absolute value being ≥1.
