PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert data having a hierarchical structure to data which are easy to handle. PSOLUTION: The data 300, having a hierarchical structure described according to the definition of an XML, are received, and the hierarchical structure is analyzed, and then the data 300 are converted to data 400, from which the hierarchical structure is removed on the basis of the result of the analysis. The data 300 include a plurality of tag pairs from 302, 303, 305, 307 and 310, and the tag pairs indicate the attributes of indents or display colors of character strings 304, 305 and 309 of the part surrounded by the tag pairs. When other tag pairs, indicating the same kind of the attributes as those of the tag pairs surrounding the part, are included in the part surrounded by the tag pairs, the attributes of the other tag pairs are converted by conversion processing so that the attribute values of the tag pairs surrounding the part are reflected.
