PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image preparing device of an image measuring instrument and a color image composition method which can obtain a color image good in a color balance and constant in the color of a composite color by using a black and white CCD. PSOLUTION: The color image preparing device 51 is provided with an illuminating optical system capable of selectively outputting red, green, and blue illuminating lights, a black and white CCD camera 11, an image electric signal data storing means 53 for storing red image electric signal data, green image electric signal data, and blue image electric signal data, a color balance rate storing means 54 for storing a color balance rate at the time of compounding the respective image electric signal data to obtain a color image and an image electric signal data compounding means 55 for compounding the respective image electric signal data. Thus, it is possible to compound the color images without being affected by the difference of the brightness of respective color illuminating lights, and to project an image photographed by the black and white CCD camera as a much more real image to make the image easy to observe.
