PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning reactant of pollutant-containing water which reduces the total cost in a polluted ground water cleaning case, having high safety over a long period of time and capable of stably removing a pollutant with good removing capacity and permeability, and a cleaning treatment method of a polluted aquifer using it. PSOLUTION: The cleaning reactant, which comprises an iron powder with a mean particle size of 0.1 mm or above and a specific surface area of 0.5 mSP2/SP/g or above containing 0.06-5 wt.% of carbon is embedded in the downstream part of ground water flowing through the aquifer to form a permeation reaction wall and the ground water is made to permeate the permeation reaction wall to remove a pollutant.
