Tetrahydroquinoline derivatives of formula (I), their salts and metabolically labile esters are new. R = halo, alkyl, alkoxy, NH2, mono- or dialkylamino, OH, CF3, OCF3, NO2, CN, SO2R2 or COR2; R1 = (CH2)nCN, CH=CHR3, (CH2)nNHCOCH2R4 or O(CH2)pNR5R6; R2 = OH, OMe, NH2, or mono- or dialkylamino; R3 = CN or COR7; R4 = alkoxy or NHCOR8; R5, R6 = H or alkyl; or NR5R6 = heterocyclyl; or R5 = H and R6 = COR9; R7 = alkoxy, amino or OH; R8 = H or optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl, heteroaryl or heterocyclyl; R9 = R8 or NR10R11; R10 = H or alkyl; R11 = optionally substituted alkyl, phenyl, heteroaryl, heterocyclyl or cycloalkyl; m = 0-2; n = 0-4; and p = 2-4.
