AUTOMATED SHARPENING OF IMAGES FOR SOFT PROOFING Automated sharpening of images for soft proofing involves dynamic adjustment of the degree of sharpening applied to soft proof images based on the magnification factor applied by the display device. The appearance of image detail in a soft proof image can vary based on the magnification factor applied to the image. Sharpening of the original high resolution RGB image data may not be required if significant zooming is employed. When reduced magnification is required, however, much of the image detail can be lost. In this case, dynamic image sharpening helps to compensate for the reduced magnification, and thereby preserve the appearance of detail for the viewer. In particular, the degree of image sharpening may be adjusted in a generally inverse proportion to the magnification factor, providing an adaptive sharpening function.
