The present invention relates to a synergistic composition useful as high performance anion getter, comprising zeolites and metallic ions, individually or in all possible combinations, having the ability to sequester anions in specific arsenic. Conventional methods and materials fail to achieve stringent standard of 10 ppb. In addition, the disposal of arsenic loaded materials is a problem in itself. Adsorption of As on metal treated zeolites with enhanced kinetics, selectivity and high adsorption capacity is promising option. The stabilization of adsorbed arsenic onto the metal treated zeolite nanoreactor by functionalisation of arsenic loaded zeolite will resolve problem of disposal of arsenic saturated media. Accordingly zeolite based nanoreactors have been developed through treatment with different metal salts to make them high performance sorption materials for arsenic. Stabilization of adsorbed arsenic in the zeolite nanoreactor has been achieved using "stopcock approach" through silylation and/or carbon deposition on the pore openings.
