The present invention relates to development of in vitro as well as in-silico methods for the screening and identification of compounds that inhibit HIS4 expression or activity. HIS4 is gene of histidine biosynthesis pathway which is an essential amino acid. Thus, HIS4 is useful as a target for the identification of antibiotics, preferably fungicides against geotrichosis. Hence, the methods of the invention are useful for the identification of antibiotics, preferably fungicides.
