The device has a channel vertically and downwardly extending inside a container (1), where material is fed through the channel. A set of braking systems fitted in the channel reduces velocity of particles of the material. The braking systems are mounted on a flexible wire or a cable that extends along length of the channel. The channel is formed by a flexible tube (5) that is made of canvas. The braking systems are spaced at regular distances from each other, where each braking system is formed by a spiral paddle fitted within the channel. An independent claim is also included for a method for filling a container.
