The system has carrier rails (10, 10') with support legs and under surfaces, and rectangular ceiling panels (120A, 120B) with a peripheral edge and an under surface, where the under surface of each ceiling panel includes a step-shaped floor whose dimensions correspond to the support legs of the carrier rails. Film-shaped image carriers (150A, 150B) are adapted to be affixed on the under surfaces of the carrier rails. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a knife for cutting a film-shaped image carrier in a suspended ceiling system (2) a method for providing a suspended ceiling in a space.
