The device has a partially inflatable catch portion for surrounding a human body (1) during a collision of the human body with a moving vehicle (2) and for retention of the body after the collision. An inflatable pad is arranged in a flank area for absorbing impact force, where the catch portion and the pad are separately inflatable. A partially inflatable top portion of the catch portion is closed by a top wall, where the catch portion includes an inflatable bottom wall and inflatable left and right sides. An independent claim is also included for a method for collection and retention of a human body during a collision of the human body with a moving vehicle.
