Disclosed is an antisense oligonucleotide 8 to 50 nucleobases in length targeted to nucleobases 580 through 599 or nucleobases 676 through 728 of a coding region, nucleobases 676 through 728 of a coding region, nucleobases 996 through 1205 or nucleobases 1579 through 1598 of a 3' untranslated region of a nucleic acid molecule (SEQ ID NO: 3) encoding insulin-like growth factor binding protein 5, wherein said oligonucleotide specifically hybridizes with one of said regions and inhibits the expression of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 5 when the antisense molecule has at least a 70% complementary sequence to the said targeted nucleobases.
