The invention relates to medicine and can be used for treating the overweight. In the method according to the invention, products are divided into three categories: prohibited products, mandatory products and basic products to which those are referred that are not referred to the first two categories. The products the glycemic index of which is 69-110 are referred to the first category and the products with the content of proteins of 17-35 g, fats 1-20 g, carbohydrates 0-1 g in the composition per 100 g of the ready product are referred to the second category. The products of the first category are fully excluded from consumption by a patient throughout all the period of treatment, the products of the second category are mandatory prescribed to be consumed 1-3 times per day throughout all the period of treatment with an energy value of 70-300 kcal per food intake, the minimum period between food intakes is 3.0 hours, and the products of the third category are prescribed to be included into food ration each day of the treatment with a general energy value of 500-1000 kcal/day. In doing so sugar, honey, white bread and potato are referred to the first category, and meat of animal origin, fish and poultry meat to the second.
