ABSTRACT Method, System and Apparatus for Providing a Carrier-Independent International Telecommunications Roaming Service.A system for providing a carrier-independent international telecommunications roaming service is disclosed. The system comprises a proxy radio terminal in a home country for communication with a home country mobile service provider over a wireless network of the home country mobile service provider. The proxy radio terminal is in communication with a remote SIM card reader. The remote SIM card reader has a SIM card issued by the home country mobile service provider so that the home country mobile service provider views the SIM card as being in the proxy radio terminal. The proxy radio terminal is also able to communicate with a mobile telephone in a foreign country, the mobile telephone having a SIM card issued by a foreign country mobile service provider, and to forward to the mobiletelephone communications received by the proxy radio terminal from the home country mobile service provider.
