Process for identifying specific elements of a previously unknown ligand-protein binding pair, which includes the steps of: (a) synthesizing a ligand library on resin beads to form an immobilized ligand library, where each immobilized library pearl comprises an element of the ligand library; (b) incubating the immobilized ligand library with two or more mixtures of differentially labeled proteins; (c) detecting an immobilized protein-ligand binding pair of the incubation mixture; (d) identify the ligand of the specific ligand binding pair; and (e) identify the protein of the protein-ligand binding pair where the identified ligand and protein are specific elements of a previously unknown differential protein-ligand binding pair.
