Nucleic acid sequences and methods for theiruse are provided which provide for seed specifictran-scription, in order to modulate or modify expression inseed, particularly embryo cells. Transcriptionalini-tiation regions are identified and isolated from plantcells and used to prepare expression cassettes whichmay then be transformed into plant cells for seedspe-cific transcription. The method finds particular usein conjunction with modifying fatty acid production inseed tissue.
