The present invention relates to Ca2+ channel blockers and more particularlyto the R-type Ca2+ channel blockers. More specifically,the invention relates to Ca2+ channel blockers activity of Mandevilla velutinaand Mandevilla illustris. The present invention further concernssaponin-like compounds isolated from Mandevilla species. The present inventionalso relates to the treatment of several pathologies thatinvolve the nifedipine-insensitive but isradipine sensitive steady-state R-type Ca2+ channel and the use of steady-state R-type Ca2+ channelblockers in the treatment of these pathologies.
