The compound datawords (504) include a first group of databits (EB3-EB1) and a second group of databits (B5-B0). A method for assertinga compound data word on a display pixelincludes the steps of asserting each bit ofthe first group of bits on the display pixelfor a coequal time period, and assertingeach bit of the second group of bits on thedisplay pixel for a time period dependenton an associated significance of each bit.
