This paper proposes a reversible data hiding scheme for medical images using Histogram Shifting. We refine the process of deriving the histogram to achieve a better hiding performance. In concrete terms, the proposed scheme obtains the histogram with a larger deviation than the conventional scheme by dividing the image into multiple blocks and calculating the difference values between adjacent pixels on a block-by-block basis, and then applies the shifting process to the histogram. Our scheme can suppress the degradation of the embedded image quality and enlarge the hiding capacity compared to the conventional scheme. The efficiency of the proposed scheme has been confirmed through our experimental results.
